I’m not in the habit of giving any one particular marketer the spotlight, on a bi-weekly basis, but Stompernet just keeps on giving. This week is all about the S.M.A.R.T.S Strategy Guide.

Not a Glorified Sales Letter
Why do marketers publish reports? (All together now:) To sell us on their product! (Very good! :D ) Joking aside, if you’ve been reading The Marketer Review for a while, you should be wise to this, by now. Most of the reports, e-books, white papers, top secret leaked chapters are glorified long-copy sales letters.

Now, I know I must have shattered all your dreams of a free information internet, but all is not lost. Note I have said the word “most”. Some reports are a wonderful collection of data that is very useful and maybe, can’t be found anywhere else. (That state of events doesn’t last long as a popular idea comes along, the copycats and other vulture-like animals will be sucking its bones dry within a matter of days.) The S.M.A.R.T.S report is such a report.

Don’t Over Estimate The S.M.A.R.T.S Report
It is, in fact, a sales letter for the S.M.A.R.T.S Coaching Program. So, in order to save you, the free information consumer, your most sacred asset- time, here’s what you should skip:

  • Skip the first 9 pages- it’s a recap of the marvelous 50 minute S.M.A.R.T.S video, go see that, instead.
  • You can also chuck anything past page 31- pure sales letter for the coaching program.

Don’t Underestimate The S.M.A.R.T.S Report?
I told you what you can skip, now here’s what you should read:

  • Everything from page 10- the title “Strategy #1”, to page 31- the title “We’re Not Done Yet”.

Why should you read 20 pages of the S.M.A.R.T.S report? Because, as all of Stompernet’s free content, there’s some stuff in there, you haven’t heard before.

Stompernet Is In The Details

If you’ve been social marketing for a while, this isn’t revolutionary stuff. Don Crowther’s and Andy Jenkins’ magic, however, lays in the details. Sure, you’ve heard of generating links through content aggregators, like Squidoo and Scribd (especially if you’ve seen the Going Natural 2.0 videos), but have you heard of Hubpages, and if you have, have you any idea what kind of mayhem you can wreak there, while making money?! Well, that’s covered, pretty much step-by-step, in the S.M.A.R.T.S report. That and many other familiar topics such as Facebook, StumbleUpon and a few more ”age-old” marketing ideas, such as video and communicating with your customer. But the best parts are in the details.

Caution! Think Before You Leap, Tiger.

Ok, I got you all exited about this report and you should definitely go read it, for the pure tips half of it. However, take it all in with a grain of salt. Remember, this is a sales letter and is suppose to get you all hyped up about social marketing, enough for you to go out and pay for a whole course. All though Crowther does add a cautionary note, on page 32, about your reputation, one thing is forgotten: Social marketing takes time. You can’t hurry social relationships. If you don’t have the patience to sit at your computer and cultivate your relationships, your social marketing will bear no fruit. Then, as a result, your online presence will, in fact, be shot to hell (or, on the bright side, no one will notice you actually passed by), just like Crowther warns.

Also, Crowther mentions all kinds of cool Facebook dohickies, you can get to put all over your browser. Now, I’m all for conforming my browser to my needs, as much as the next gal, but in my view, (unless you have a will of steel) this is a bad idea. It’s bad enough my computer dings me every time I get an email, but if I knew I had a comment on my Digg, every two seconds, that’d be the end of my internet entrepreneurial endeavors.

Word of advise on that- If you want to be updated on your social marketing relationships and goings on, most networks have an e-mail option. I have a special folder for all my social networking related e-mails. I open it once a day and focus on that for a specific period of time. Expect to have a regular count of about 500 unread emails.
4 stars In the 20 pages, which are not a recap of the video, or a sales letter for the coaching program, the S.M.A.R.T.S report is an excellent read, with a few nice ideas, to get you aquatinted with social marketing.

  2. Tali! You’re an absolute doll for doing the legwork on this. I only recently heard of StomperNet and they’re eye-tracking studies/software. It’s really fascinating information.

But as always, nothing is for free, and there’s always a pitch letter (sales copy) for their I’m sure very expensive program.

This is super. Thanks for the awesome summary! We all owe you one!! (tee-hee)

  9. Frankly, I don’t believe StomperNet. I think they were lying from the beginning. Their SMARTS coaching program is ridiculously pricey. – Hungry monsters!

  10. Hey Tony,
Out of curiosity, if it was cheaper, would you see it differently?
