It was revolutionary for me to find out that economics is not about the numbers, but about history and social trends. Now these are things you can picture and relate to! But do you have the patience?
History moves slowly. Even though we have been thoroughly conditioned to expect huge, revolutionary changes in a matter of monthly intervals, life really hasn’t changed in quite a while. Sometimes, one invention can change the whole of the human population on planet earth. Revolutionary items such as the printing press, the condom or the internet have made huge, surprising, irreversible differences in the way our world works. Most of the time, however, change comes as a part of a long historic process, that can be traced back, baby-step by baby-step, to it’s meager origins.
Baby-step by baby-step internet marketing
My loyal readers know I advocate signing up to free newsletters, to get a global picture of what’s hot and what sucks in internet marketing. I’ve been an avid reader of these newsletters, ezines and mailing lists, for two years, now, and frankly, I feel that, lately, my learning curve has been stagnating. Nothing really new is happening anymore!
Internet marketing is one of these baby-step by baby-step processes. Starting off with ordinary, little people making a little cash, around 1995 and reaching today’s current status of McDonald’s, thinking they could gain client trust, by opening a profile on Facebook. After “the media revolution” (Marketers making podcasts and Youtube videos), the “Google Slap” and “Web 2.0”, all that is left is making precisely-targeted, quality content and coming up with original interactive ideas for your clients.
Innovative internet marketing of the future
Joel Comm’s Next Internet Millionaire and The 30 Day Challenge managed to really get me exited about internet marketing’s future. To this list, I’d like to add the Business Idea of the Day organization.
Run by Steve Rhode, Business Idea of the Day is a none-profit organization that collects business ideas and funds small businesses in third world countries, using these donated ideas. As most non-profits, Rhode utilizes viral marketing to spread the word. Asking for links is not beneath him (new in the hotlist) and a nice, shapely widget has been issued, for those who will sport it. Incidentally, I stumbled upon Steve at Twitter. Rhode knows his viral marketing and created a unique service, using a creative marketing plan.
‘Cause I’m a sucker for a good cause and because, as always, if you only look at how Rhode markets, you may just learn something.

You make a great point, Billy! There is a viable prospect for a people’s revolution on the web, as long as we (the people) keep it that way.
Check out the Save the Internet organization at and see what you can do for the cause.
