Be on the front pages of Google. Be the talk of the forums Have the word about your business spread virally.

Lately I feel there’s this strange myth going around, that the only way to make money over the web is by going into the information product niche. This is complete shit. The internet is an amazing tool, which is open to an endless array of businesses. In fact, only a very small percentage of the online businesses are dedicated to teaching internet marketing. You don’t have to talk about selling online to sell online.

Why you need to learn online marketing
Perhaps you don’t even have a website, you have a little shop on Main street. It’s doing nicely, but it could always do better. If only you could reach a wider audience! The internet will not only help you to reach a wider audience, it will help you do it for free.

How would you like to be on the front pages of Google? What about being the talk of your niche’s forums? How would you like it, if your business’ address was being passed around like a hot potato, by your target audience?
Neat, huh?..

How do I learn all these neat tricks?
As in all things in life, you must get an education. It’s true, there are courses off-line and online, where you could learn this information, but as I always scream off rooftops:

You can do it yourself and you can do it for free!!!

So here is how I did it

  • Open a file in your email account and call it something along the line of “marketing tips”.
  • Get familiar with RSS methods.
  • Open a window or a tab for each one of the items on my Hotlist (on the sidebar).
  • Subscribe to each on of my Hotlist’s blogs by RSS.
  • Subscribe to their free courses by email and download their free reports and e-books.
  • If they refer you to another blogger or marketer, subscribe to these people’s lists, as well. I am warning you here and now, you may get spammed, but you also may get valuable information. How to sort this out? For the first couple of months, keep track of who sends you diamonds and who sends you coal. If after that you don’t like the looks of things, you can always unsubscribe.

Why should I let these opportunists spam me?!
Fabulous question! What I got from being spammed occasionally and tipped usually, was a good global picture of internet marketing. On one hand, I got specific unique tips and on the other, I got redundant information, that built a very whole picture of what is popular in the market. My Hotlist is a collection of the most insightful and helpful blogs, I’ve found on my virtual travels. They Are all 5 star worthy as far as I’m concerned.

Opening yourself up to this information will give you all the research you need to make. If you find that by the end of a years time (yes, a year, this ain’t the Siegfried and Roy show!) you know more than anybody else, around you, about Google (this will be apparent by the blank stare on their faces), then you have done it right. And all the benefits I mentioned in the beginning of this post will be yours, for free.

Don’t forget to implement
The best way to learn is to gain experience. Trial and error will not only show you what works and what doesn’t, but it will also make clear to you what works for you. By implementing the tips, you read, to your product, product packaging and sales techniques, you are sure to understand what you read better and thus be a better online marketer.

So, once again, I direct you, to my ever- growing Hotlist 5 stars,
signature- Tali

  2. Tali, I agree with you 100%. I just entered the incredible world of internet marketing myself and respect your opinion and ideas. I strongly believe in training, however, and believ that sometimes you get what you pay for and sometimes you get ripped off. I recently heard about the upcoming Midwest Super Conference for Internet Marketing. The line-up of guest speakers appears to be very accomplished. Can you or your readers check it out and let me know if I should invest in this training as a beginner to internet marketing. Here is the link. Thanks, Joe.

  3. Hi – I totally agree that there are many unscrupulous people out there who will offer overnight riches, take your money then disappear. I got caught by a couple of them. I have just been part of the 30 Day Challenge where ethical methods of learning IM are taught. The training is free and you are taught how to make your first $10 without spending any money. I can’t tell you how valuable this training has been for me. The official challenge ended 31/8/07 but the website is staying up for others to use. Please try it, it’s not a scam, it’s ethical and it is free. (www.thirtydaychallenge.com)

  8. Hi there,

i believe that most us are going to be doomed if continue to focus our online biz in the area of internet marketing product. we do this because that is what most of the internet marketing gurus have taught us so far. just take a look what they are selling every week thru their newsletter. most of them are internet marketing products. they got rich only because they sell internet marketing products to beginners. why don’t they tell us what is the best product in any niche such as weight loss. people are having trouble try to get the working diet plan or the working diet pill. everywhere we go people are afraid of buying weight loss product on the net. something is not right happening on the net. people claim to make a lot of money online yet there is phobia among ‘real customer’ try to get products to solve their problems.

  9. MoneyMatter,
I absolutely agree and want to make it clear that under no circumstances, when I talk about internet marketing, am I only referring to marketing products. Internet marketing is a tool, not the be-all-end-all goal. The strategies and techniques that I suggest on this blog, could be used for sales of any product. In fact, I’m working on an online business that has nothing to do with internet marketing products, as we speak and I would love to let all my readers know how it turns out.
As for choosing the right product and niche, I advise using Wordtracker and Google Trends (more information at my post about The 30 Day Challenge). And in regards to getting people not to be afraid of buying, you must create and build trust. Weather it’s professional-looking design, trust-evoking copy (i.e. no slimy life-insurance-sales-guy bullshit) and even a trust badge (try Honesty Online).

  10. Tali!

You Rock! This is one of the
best posts I’ve seen in a while ;)

    Take Care,

    Michael Silvester
