Why use a blog to market your online business? Because you have to!

Why a Blog?
Any veteran on-line marketer will tell you that you are not selling a product; you are offering a solution to a problem. Does this sound like a sales pitch? Maybe it’s what the internet marketer is pitching to himself, to feel better about what he does. From where I’m standing, there is nothing morally wrong with that. The internet has long adopted a you-scratch-my-back-I-scratch-yours attitude. In other words: Community.

The truth is, even if you’re not considering using a blog for your marketing, you probably have no choice. The blog is an incredible tool, to get yourself noticed and to get people involved. But don’t look at it as a chore, on the contrary, it’s one of the things that make internet marketing so unique and so community oriented. When you start a blog, you need to have something to say; when you launch a product it’s no different. Think how powerful these two things are together!

But I’m not a writer
And I’m not a technical person, and lo-and-behold, here I am, living my professional life on-line, spending most of my time on a very technical machine, we call a computer. It’s never too late to learn. And with the internet, you can learn anything for free. My very adamant advise is this:

If your business is online, learn to write a blog!

Where can I learn?
You think I’d give you advise like that and just leave you hanging?! What kind of person do you think I am?!

Here’s your review for the week: The sites mentioned in the resource list below are The Marketer Review’s preferred blogs on blogging. These people know what they are talking about and are generous enough to talk about it for free. You can’t find this stuff in any university.

As I always say, the knowledge is out there, you just have to find it! And as for Rich Schefren’s theory of attention-span problems, here’s a tip on how to avoid information overload, when browsing the blog sphere:

  • Read the current article. Did it excite you with something new that you didn’t know?
  • Read two more articles on two different topics, on the same blog. Are they as exiting?
  • Subscribe to the blog (I recommend Sage for Firefox users).

If you want to learn, learn from a professional. 5 stars
